Governor Culver To Receive Worker Misclassification Task Force Report Today
DES MOINES – Governor Chet Culver will receive the final report of the Worker Misclassification Task Force at a special ceremony in his office later this morning.
Governor Culver created the task force in July by signing Executive Order Number 8. The Worker Misclassification Task Force was charged with examining the ways certain employers wrongfully classified workers as independent contractors, rather than full-time employees, and are able to avoid paying the employer’s share of social security, unemployment taxes, providing workers’ compensation coverage, and benefits such as health insurance for those employees.
The report will provide information on worker misclassification in the state, its effects on the people of Iowa, and what state government can do to prevent the misuse of independent contractors.
The Governor will be joined by members of the task force, as well as individuals who have been misclassified by employers in the past.
