Governor Culver Appoints John Bickel Of Cedar Rapids To Economic Development Board

-Announces 16 other Board and Commission Appointments

DES MOINES – Today, Governor Chet Culver announced his appointment of John Bickel to the state Economic Development Board.

“John brings a wealth of experience and community leadership to the Economic Development Board,” said Governor Culver. “I want to thank John, and all who serve on state Boards and Commissions, for their commitment to Iowa, and I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead.”

Bickel is a Senior Vice President with Shuttleworth and Ingersoll Law Firm and has been in practice with the firm since 1970.  He practices primarily in the areas of labor and employment law.  John has given a lifetime of service to the Cedar Rapids area, serving on the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, National Rivers Hall of Fame, Cornell College Board of Trustees, Cedar Rapids Symphony, Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, Cedar Rapids Downtown Rotary, and the United Way of East Central Iowa.

Bickel will fill an unexpired term that will begin immediately and end on 4/30/2010. 

The Iowa Economic Development Board is 15 person, policy setting board that oversees activities of the Department of Economic Development.  They review and establish procedures and policies for the awarding of grants and contracts to businesses, as well as approve the budget for the department and coordinate and evaluate strategic planning initiatives.

The Governor also announced the appointment of the16 individuals below to 11 Boards and Commissions.
