Governor Culver Directs State Resources To Help Humboldt, Page Counties

Issues disaster proclamation to assist two more counties

(DES MOINES) – Today, Governor Chet Culver added Humboldt and Page Counties to a disaster proclamation to assist areas affected following a series of severe storms that moved through the state last night.  The action directs state resources to these counties to assist in flood preparation and response.

Overnight, severe weather moved throughout Iowa, with several severe storms reported.

The Governor's disaster declaration frees up state resources, and will make it easier for Humboldt County to access pumps and for Page County to receive pumps and sandbags in preparation for expected and ongoing flooding.  The two counties join Montgomery and Union Counties, which were included in the disaster proclamation earlier today.

Over the next two days, Iowa is expected to see continued severe weather, which will bring more rain to already water-soaked portions of the state.  As a result, flooding remains a concern, and Iowans are encouraged to use caution over the coming days.  Iowans should know the best evacuation route should their house be threatened by rising flood waters.  To find out more about flood and severe weather preparedness, visit the Iowa Homeland Security website at www.iowahomelandsecurity.org and click on “Flooding Facts.”
