Statement From Governor Culver On Federal Proposal For New Flood Disaster Assistance Funding
(JOHNSTON) – Today, Governor Chet Culver issued the following statement after receiving word that the US House of Representatives will include $2 billion in funding for Midwest flood assistance in a proposed spending bill that is expected to come to the floor this week.
STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR CULVER:
“I want to thank Iowa’s Congressional Delegation and Congressional leaders for taking steps toward securing additional federal funding for flood disaster assistance. Since this disaster began, I have been in constant communication with Iowa’s federal delegation, leaders in Congress from both sides of the aisle, and Federal officials. All have expressed their support and commitment to helping our state recover.
“In recent days, I have traveled to many communities, and have seen first hand the damage that this year’s severe weather has brought to our state. The damage will total in the billions of dollars. It will take a coordinated effort on the local, state, and federal level, and I look forward to continuing our work together in the days ahead.
“Iowans are strong. Iowans are tough. And together, with the help of our Federal partners, we will rebuild the Great State of Iowa.”
