Lt. Governor Judge Travels To Washington For Homeland Security Meetings
Will meet with Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff
WASHINGTON, DC – Lt. Governor Patty Judge, who serves as Iowa’s homeland security advisor, traveled to Washington, D.C. this week for the biennial meeting of the Governors’ Homeland Security Advisors Council and State, Local, Territorial, and Tribal Government Coordinating Council (SLTTGCC). The SLTTGCC brings together non-federal Government officials to advise DHS on infrastructure protection.
“It is great to be in Washington to discuss Iowa’s many homeland security needs,” said Lt. Governor Judge. “These meetings provide an important opportunity for states like Iowa to share with the federal government the unique security issues our state faces.”
During the meetings, the Lt. Governor will participate in discussions on infrastructure protection, cyber security and emergency communications among other topics.
On Thursday, the Lt. Governor will meet with US Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. During the meeting, the Lt. Governor will highlight the security challenges Iowans face and Iowa’s homeland security needs.
“Most people think that securing the homeland only takes place in large cities, but here in Iowa we have real needs that must be addressed, and critical infrastructure that must be protected,” said the Lt. Governor. “As one of America’s leading producers of food, and as a national leader in biofuels and renewable energy, Iowa is helping to feed and fuel the nation. As Homeland Security Advisor, I will do whatever necessary to protect these important assets and ensure the safety of all Iowans."
