Culver, Judge Celebrate End Of Lighten Up Iowa
New Culver/Judge Activity Challenge Announced
DES MOINES – Today, Governor Chet Culver and Lt. Governor Patty Judge marked the end of the Culver/Judge 100 Day Fitness Challenge, and announced plans for a new activity challenge for state employees to begin this summer – the Culver/Judge 100 Way Challenge.
“Iowans have eaten better, exercised more, and gotten healthier. But now is no time to let up!” said Governor Culver. “State employees got active. Now, I’m asking them to stay active! A great way to do this is by taking part in what I am announcing today - the Culver/Judge 100 Way Challenge!”
The Culver/Judge 100 Way Challenge will encourage state employees to stay active. Participants will be given a list of fitness activities to choose from, and earn points for each activity completed. The Culver/Judge 100 Way Challenge will be available to state employees this year, and expanded statewide next summer. Further details on the new challenge will be announced in the coming weeks.
In her comments, Lt. Governor Patty Judge congratulated the more than 36,000 Lighten Up Iowa participants for their hard work throughout this year’s program.
“Lighten Up Iowa has been a tremendous success. And this year has been no different,” said Lt. Governor Judge. “More than 4700 teams logged nearly 62 and a half million activity minutes during the 100 days of this challenge. And as a result, together, we have lost more than 135,000 pounds. As we go forward, lets make sure we keep moving and keep the weight off.”
During the Governor’s Condition of the State Address in January, the Governor challenged Iowans to join him and the Lt. Governor to compete in Lighten Up Iowa.
