Governor Announces Kate Walton as HHS Policy Liaison
Des Moines – Today, Governor Chet Culver announced Kate Walton has joined his staff as the new Health and Human Services policy liaison.
“I am very pleased to have Kate Walton on board as the newest member of our team,” said Governor Culver. “I have known Kate for years and am pleased that someone with her caliber of talent and experience related to health care issues has agreed to serve the people of Iowa as a member of our staff.”
Previously, Walton worked for Orchard Place , a non-profit children’s agency in Des Moines , and then for the Lincoln Strategies Group where she directed the American Medical Association’s Voice for the Uninsured campaign in early voting states Iowa , New Hampshire and South Carolina . From 2001-2005, Walton served as Legislative Liaison for the Iowa Department of Human Services.
“Governor Culver has made increasing health care access and making health care more affordable a top priority, and I am truly honored to have the opportunity to serve as his policy advisor on health care issues,” said Walton. “It’s great to be back in the public sector working on issues near and dear to my heart, and I look forward to working to accomplish the Governor’s goal of covering every child in the state.”
Kate Walton, 36, is a lifelong Iowan married to husband John Moorlach. Kate and John have two children, Ava (nearly 5) and Amelia (13 months) and currently live in Indianola. She is a 1990 graduate from Valley High School and has an undergraduate and graduate degree from the University of Minnesota.
