Earth Day Statement From Governor Culver
Governor: “Now is our time to improve our environment and reduce the effects of climate change”
Des Moines – Today, Governor Chet Culver issued the following statement regarding Earth Day:
STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR CHET CULVER:
“From the towering bluffs overlooking the Mississippi , to the gently rolling Loess Hills along the Missouri , Iowa is a state of unending beauty.
“As we celebrate Earth Day, let us all remember we must do everything we can to protect the air, land, lakes, rivers and streams we all love.
“Now is our time to improve our environment and reduce the effects of climate change. Now is our time, and much is expected of us.
“Here in Iowa , I’m proud to say our work has already begun. Iowa ’s new Office of Energy Independence continues to look at ways to increase energy efficiency across the state, and invest in researching and developing the next generation of clean, efficient renewable energy. In addition, we’ve made historic investments in water quality and environmental improvement.
“However, I believe cleaning our environment must also be a priority for each of us as individuals. So, on this Earth Day, we ask that Iowans join with us to do everything they can to keep our state beautiful. Whether it be recycling, reducing energy use, or picking up litter, please do your part to make Iowa a leader in environmental conservation. Together, we can protect the Iowa ’s natural beauty and leave a better, cleaner world for generations to come.”
