Governor Culver Appoints Judge David Baker To Iowa Supreme Court
Appellate Court Judge is Culver’s First Appointee to Iowa’s Highest Court
DES MOINES – Today, Governor Chet Culver appointed David Baker to the Iowa Supreme Court. Currently a judge on the Iowa Court of Appeals, Baker is the first person the Governor has named to the highest court in the state.
“I am honored to name Judge David Baker as my first appointee to the Iowa Supreme Court,” said Governor Culver. “As a lawyer in Cedar Rapids and throughout the time he has spent on the bench, Judge Baker has demonstrated a deep interest in the lives of Iowans, and I am confident that as an Iowa Supreme Court Justice, he will continue to stand up and protect the rights of Iowans for years to come.”
Judge David Baker received his undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa in 1975 with honors and his law degree from the University of Iowa, College of Law in 1979 with high honors (Order of the Coif). After law school, Baker practiced law in Cedar Rapids until his appointment by Governor Vilsack to Iowa’s 6th District Court in late 2004. He has served on the Iowa Court of Appeals since 2006.
