Governor Culver Announces 15 Renewable Fuels Awards
More Than $400,000 in Awards to Increase Access to E-85 and Biodiesel
(DES MOINES) – Today, Governor Chet Culver announced 15 new awards approved by the state’s Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Board (RFIB) totaling $418,500 to assist 14 Iowa retailers to install pumps for E-85 ethanol and biodiesel fuel, terminals installing biodiesel blending equipment, and tank wagons with dedicated compartments for E-85 and biodiesel for farm delivery.
“Here in Iowa, where renewable energy is transforming our state, it is only fitting that our cars run on clean- burning, Iowa-grown ethanol and biodiesel," said Governor Culver. “Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for Iowa families to use renewable fuels. This program helps us to expand access to renewable fuels for Iowa consumers, promote Iowa’s renewable energy economy and reduce America's reliance on foreign oil.”
“Ranking first in ethanol and second in biodiesel, Iowa is a national leader in biofuels production,” said Iowa Department of Economic Development Director Mike Tramontina. "These awards to expand access to E-85 ethanol and biodiesel demonstrate Iowa's commitment to a greater use of renewable energy."
