Governor Culver Signs Allowable Growth Bill
Bill increases amount state spends per student in state aid by $222.00
(DES MOINES) — Today Governor Chet Culver signed House File 2140 into law. “As a former teacher and coach, and a parent of two children, I understand the important role that education plays in the life of a child. Iowa’s children hold the keys to our future, and the work we are doing to improve education this year will build upon our historic, very solid foundation for our kids and young adults,” said Governor Culver.
This bill sets the fiscal year 2010 school foundation allowable growth rate at 4%. This increases the school district cost per pupil by $222 to $5768.00.
State aid to public education will total approximately $2.3 billion dollars in fiscal year 2010, which is an increase of over $110 million dollars over fiscal year 2009.
Governor Culver said, “What this means, is even in a year of difficult budget decisions, one thing is certain: when we work together, and put partisan politics aside, we can do the right thing for students, parents, and teachers.”
