Governor Culver Appoints Members To Child Welfare Advisory Committee

(DES MOINES)- Today Governor Chet Culver announced his appointees to the Child Welfare Advisory Committee. The Child Welfare Advisory Committee is established to advise the administrator and the Department of Human Services on the programmatic and budgetary matters related to the provision or purchase of child welfare services. The committee shall meet to review departmental budgets, policies, and programs, and proposed budgets, policies, and programs, and to make recommendations and suggestions to make the state child welfare budgets, programs and policies more effective in serving families and children.

“Along with Lt. Governor Judge, First Lady Mari Culver and I are committed to the welfare of the children of Iowa,” said Governor Culver. “It is our sincerest hope that these appointees will accept the challenge to do what is in the best interest of Iowa’s neediest children and families. The members of this committee come from varied backgrounds, each with experience and understanding of the issues affecting Iowa’s youth, and we applaud their willingness to serve on this important committee.”

The advisory committee shall consist of 15 voting members appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. These shall include representatives from:

  • Child welfare service providers
  • Juvenile court services
  • Iowa Foster and Adoptive Parent Association
  • Child Advocacy Board
  • Coalition for Family and Children’s Services in Iowa
  • Children’s advocates
  • Service consumers
  • Others with training or knowledge related to Child Welfare Services
