Governor Culver Names Michael Blouin To Iowa Transportation Commission
DES MOINES - Today, Governor Chet Culver named Michael Blouin, President of the Greater Dubuque Development Corporation, to the Iowa Transportation Commission.
“I am proud to name Mike Blouin to the Iowa Transportation Commission,” said Governor Culver. “A reliable, safe and efficient transportation system is vital to our state’s economy. As a 30 year veteran of economic development efforts, Mike’s expertise will be valuable as we prepare our rivers, rails and roads to meet the needs of Iowa’s 21st Century economy.”
A native of Dubuque, Mike Blouin spent several years in public service, representing eastern Iowa in the Iowa House, Iowa Senate and US House of Representatives. He went on to hold several economic development posts across the state including Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and in state government, where he served as Director of the Iowa Department of Economic Development. Earlier this year, Blouin was named President of the Greater Dubuque Development Corporation where he manages new business recruitment, executes regional and national marketing strategies and leads entrepreneurial and venture capital development efforts.
The Iowa Transportation Commission is a seven person commission that works with the Iowa Department of Transportation to develop a comprehensive transportation policy and plan for the state, identify transportation needs and develop programs to meet those needs. Commissioners serve a four-year term and receive an annual compensation of $10,000.
Blouin will fill the position vacated by Thomas Hart in November. His term will be effective immediately and will run through April 30, 2009. He will serve in the interim and his appointment will be subject to two-thirds Senate confirmation in March.
