Governor Culver Commends Senator Harkin On Passage Of Farm Bill In Senate

(DES MOINES)- Today, Governor Chet Culver commended Iowa Senator Tom Harkin for passage of the Farm Bill through the United States Senate. Here is Governor Culver’s statement:

“Senator Harkin has always been a fighter on behalf of Iowa’s farmers. Although he faced many procedural hurdles along the way, Chairman Harkin persevered and passed a bill that will benefit Iowa’s farmers, families and businesses. I am especially pleased that, for the second consecutive Farm Bill, Chairman Harkin has included an Energy Title. The more opportunities American agriculture has for the research and development of our biorenewable resources, the closer our nation will become to energy independence.

“I look forward to the bill going to conference with the House and passing the full Congress in the near future. With a completed Farm Bill, Iowa’s farmers can make well informed planning decisions for the crop year ahead.”

Governor Culver and North Dakota Governor John Hoeven co-authored a bi-partisan letter to the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives, encouraging a swift compromise and completion on the 2007 Farm Bill.
