Governor Culver Encourages Iowans To Nominate Citizens For "Above And Beyond" Award

Congressional Medal of Honor Society honors those who put service before self

(Washington D.C.)- The Congressional Medal of Honor Society has announced that nominations are currently being accepted for a non-partisan, non-military initiative called “Above and Beyond.” The group hopes to honor citizens who have made a difference in the lives of others through a singular act of extraordinary heroism or through their continued commitment to putting others before themselves, without regard for personal gain.

Nominations for the “Above and Beyond” Citizen Honors, which is considered one of the nation’s highest civilian honors, can be submitted by filling out an online nomination form as www.aboveandbeyond365.com. All nominations must be received by December 16, 2007, in order to be considered.

Governor Culver said, “I urge Iowans to nominate a fellow citizen that truly embodies the spirit of ‘Above and Beyond.’ If you know of someone who deserves this prestigious honor, please go to the website, www.aboveandbeyond365.comwww.aboveandbeyond365.com and submit a nomination form.”

After nominations have been received, one finalist will be selected from every state. From this nominee pool, three will be chosen to receive the prestigious “Above and Beyond” Citizen Honors designation. On National Medal of Honor Day, which is March 25, 2008, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society will present the awards during a live event hosted by Brian Williams, of NBC News, at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., and broadcast to the nation on March 30, 2008.
