Governor Culver Signs "Diabetes Day" Proclamation
(Des Moines) – Today, Governor Chet Culver issued a proclamation declaring November 14, 2007, as Diabetes Day in Iowa.
“Diabetes is an illness that affects thousands of Iowans and millions around the globe,” said Governor Culver. “I am honored to declare Diabetes Day in Iowa to raise awareness of this important issue and encourage Iowans to get involved in the fight to cure this disease.”
Earlier this year, Governor Culver took steps to find a cure for illnesses like diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s when he lifted the ban on stem cell research. This action, along with the creation of the new Center for Biomedical Research and Discovery at the University of Iowa, will help Iowa’s world-class scientists perform the necessary research to fight this and many other diseases.
