Governor Culver Makes Judicial Appointment
Governor appoints Joel Yates as Disctrict Court Judge for the 8th Judicial District
(Des Moines) Today, Governor Chet Culver appointed Joel Yates as a District Court Judge for the 8th Judicial District of Iowa. Yates is currently a private practice attorney in Oskaloosa. Judicial District 8A includes Poweshiek, Mahaska, Monroe, Appanoose, Keokuk, Wapello, Davis, Jefferson, Van Buren and Washington counties. The vacancy was created when Iowa District Court Judge Dan F. Morrison retired after 24 years of service.
“I am proud to announce Joel Yates as Iowa’s new District Court judge for the 8th District,” said Governor Culver. “With his experience in private practice, I am certain he will make valuable contributions to Iowa’s judicial system in the years ahead.”
JOEL YATES: Joel Yates is currently a private practice attorney in Oskaloosa. He received his undergraduate degree from the Mount Mercy College in 1986 and his law degree from Drake Law School in 1994. After law school, he joined Clements Law Firm in Oskaloosa where he currently practices. He also serves as the City Attorney for What Cheer and Delta and occasionally assists the City of Sigourney.
