Event part of traveling 9/11 Memorial Tour

Lt. Governor Patty Judge today honored victims of the September 11th Attack at a ceremony in Des Moines. As part of the event, she signed her name to a beam that will be used in the construction of the national Sept. 11th Memorial in New York City. DES MOINES -- Lt. Governor Patty Judge will welcome the traveling exhibit of the September 11th Memorial and Monument to Iowa on Tuesday at the State Capitol Grounds. She will be joined by former New York Governor George Pataki, Iowa public safety officials, Homeland Security and Emergency Management officials, and emergency personnel from across the state.

“I am honored to welcome the traveling exhibit of September 11 Memorial and Monument,” said Lt. Governor Patty Judge. “Iowans will have an opportunity to see for themselves the lasting impact of that horrible day, pay tribute to the innocent Americans who lost their lives and honor the brave men and women who died trying to save them. I encourage Iowans to take a moment to visit the Capitol Grounds and remember those who died on September 11, 2001."

In addition to viewing photographs, artifacts and a film featuring firsthand accounts of 9/11 and the aftermath, individuals and communities across the country will have a chance to contribute directly to this historic effort by signing a steel beam that will be used in the construction of the National September 11 Memorial.

The traveling exhibit of the September 11 Memorial and Monument began on September 11, 2007 in Colombia, South Carolina and is scheduled to end on December 16 in Tampa, Florida. Des Moines is the 13th stop on the tour.
