Governor Culver Appoints New Interoperable Communications Board Members
(Des Moines)- Today, Governor Chet Culver appointed nine of 15 members of the Statewide Interoperable
Communications Board. The newly commissioned board, created by House File 353, will:
- Establish, monitor and maintain appropriate policies to ensure that interoperable communications systems function properly.
- Allocate and oversee state appropriations or other funding received for interoperable communications.
- Expand, maintain, and fund consistent, periodic training programs for current communications systems and for the statewide integrated public safety communications interoperability system as it is implemented.
- Develop a statewide integrated public safety communications interoperability system that allows for shared communications systems and costs.
The new appointees are:
- Ron Miller, At-Large Member, Fairbank
- Sandy Morris, Communication Center Manager, Des Moines
- Randy Thompson, Communication Center Manager, Glenwood
- Jeremy Logan, Municipal Police Department, Oelwein
- Roxane Warnell, Municipal Police Department, Gladbrook
- Greg Martin, Fire Department, Sioux City
- Kerry Crouch, Fire Department, Yarmouth
- Mike Williams, County Sheriff, Clarinda
- Dina McKenna, County Sheriff, Story
Terms: 3 year staggered
Members: 15 members; 9 appointed by the Governor
Make-up: The Statewide Interoperable Communications Board will consist of:
- 15 voting members
- The following members are appointed by the Governor:
- Two members who are representatives from municipal police departments
- Two members who are representatives of sheriff’s offices
- Two members who are representatives from fire departments
- Two members who are law communication center managers employed by state or local government agencies
- One at-large member
- The 6 members not appointed by the Governor are:
- One member representing the Department of Transportation
- One member representing the Department of Public Safety
- One member representing the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division
- One member representing the Department of Corrections
- One member representing the Department of Natural Resources
- One member representing the Department of Public Health
