Governor Culver Statement On Gymnast Shawn Johnson Winning Gold Medal
(Des Moines) Today, Governor Culver issued a statement on Shawn Johnson winning the World all-around title today in Stuttgart, Germany.
STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR CHET CULVER:
“I congratulate Shawn Johnson on her outstanding achievement, winning the World all-around title. She is the platinum standard in women’s gymnastics. It is a thrill to watch her skill and competitiveness as she competes on the world stage against the best gymnasts in the world. She has represented herself, her family and her state with grace and dignity, and we are proud that she is from Iowa.
“Shawn has put in the hard work and long hours it takes to be a champion. And In a sport as serious and stressful as gymnastics, her smile and energy are infectious.
“We keep Shawn in our prayers and wish her the best of luck as she prepares for the Olympics in Beijing.”
