Governor Culver Announces New & Improved Jobs Databank
(Des Moines) Today, Governor Chet
Culver joined with officials from Iowa Workforce Development (IWD), the Iowa Department of Economic Development (IDED),
and the Iowa Careers Consortium to announce the new and improved IowaJobs.org, a comprehensive site for Iowa employers
to post all of their available job opportunities, and a one-stop-shop for jobseekers to connect with Iowa's
opportunities.
“We in state government have a responsibility to find the workers our economy needs,” said Governor Culver. “That is why I am proud to announce the new and improved IowaJobs.Org. This website will allow individuals both in and out of Iowa to find the most complete listing of high-quality jobs in the state, and is a big step forward in our efforts to meet the 150,000 jobs surplus Iowa is projected to experience in five years.”
IowaJobs.Org is operated by IWD in conjunction with IDED and the Iowa Careers Consortium to ensure that Iowa’s employment opportunities have the most exposure possible. IowaJobs.Org is one piece of Iowa’s overall marketing effort to attract new Iowans to the state and keep Iowans here at home.
Following the press conference, Governor Culver was shown how the new system operates and the recent enhancements to the system.
New features of the website include job scraping technology, which allows IWD to pull jobs automatically from employers’ websites and put them directly on IowaJobs.Org. This new technology has dramatically increased the number of jobs on the website, and will ensure that when a job seeker logs on to IowaJobs.Org, they are seeing the most up-to-date list of high-quality jobs in the state.
“I want to thank some of Iowa’s biggest employers for allowing us to use this new technology,” said the Governor. “Thanks to their cooperation, jobs from companies like John Deere, MidAmerican Energy, and Principal Financial Group can now be found on this website. I encourage all Iowa businesses to work with State Government by logging onto IowaJobs.Org and posting their employment opportunities. By working together on projects such as this, I know we can make our economic goals a reality.”
