Governor Culver Names Rachel Scott As Division Administrator Of The Commission On The Status Of Women
(Des Moines) – Today, Governor Chet Culver is proud to announce Rachel Scott as Iowa’s next Division Administrator for the Commission on the Status of Women (ICSW).
“I am honored to name Rachel Scott to this important position,” said Governor Culver. “Iowa’s women deserve someone with her experience, fresh ideas and vision to advocate on their behalf. There are serious issues facing women today, ranging from health care to domestic violence, and I am grateful to have Rachel in place as the next Division Administrator of this Commission.”
The Iowa Commission on the Status of Women (ICSW) is a state agency that seeks to assure equality for Iowa women. The ICSW advocates for Iowa women, working to equalize women's opportunities and to promote full participation by women in the economic, political, and social life of the state. Established in 1972 by the Iowa Legislature, the ICSW is a division of the Department of Human Rights. The ICSW is composed of nine citizens appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Iowa Senate. Two members of the Senate, two members of the Iowa House of Representatives, and the director of the Department of Human Rights, serve ex officio.
Rachel Scott: Rachel Scott has worked as a public policy consultant with State Public Policy Group since 2004, having promoted advocacy efforts on behalf of groups such as afterschool programs, workforce development centers, and foster and adoptive parents. She has experience in issue education and outreach, research and evaluation, and policy development. Prior to 2004, Ms. Scott taught writing and literature at community colleges. She earned a Master of Public Administration from Drake University in 2005 and a Master of Arts in English from Truman State University in 2001. She lived in Fairfield, Iowa for ten years and now resides in Des Moines with her two daughters.
