Governor Culver Makes Judicial Appointment

Governor appoints Bradley J. Harris as District Court Judge for the 1st Judicial District

(Des Moines) Today, Governor Chet Culver appointed Bradley Harris as a District Court Judge for the 1st Judicial District of Iowa. Harris is currently a partner at the law firm of Kliebenstein, Heronimus, Schmidt, & Harris. He also serves as the Grundy County Attorney and the City Attorney for Grundy Center. The 1st Judicial District covers Howard, Chickasaw, Fayette, Buchanan, Black Hawk and Grundy counties. The vacancy was created when Iowa District Court Judge Karl D. Briner retired.

“I am pleased to announce Bradley Harris as Iowa’s new District Court judge for the 1st District,” said Governor Culver. “His vast experience in both the public and private sectors makes him well-equipped to serve in this new capacity. I have no doubt that Mr. Harris’ expertise will be an asset to Iowa’s judicial system and the 1st District.”

BRADLEY HARRIS: Bradley J. Harris is currently a private practice attorney in Grundy Center. He received his undergrad degree at Loras College in 1976 and his law degree from the University of Iowa in 1980. He then went into private practice at Karpin & Harris and Bradley J. Harris Law Office from 1981-1987 in Albia. While there, he also served as an Assistant County Attorney (Monroe County) from 1981-1983 and from 1986-1987 served as the City Attorney of Lovilia, Iowa. From 1987-1995 served as public defender in Waterloo. In 1995, he joined the law firm of Kliebenstein, Heronimus, Schmidt, & Harris in Grundy Center as an associate. He became partner in 1999, and continues to practice law with the firm. Also in 1995, Harris became Assistant county Attorney in Grundy County. He held that position until 2003 when he became County Attorney, a position he still holds. Since 2004, Harris has also served as City Attorney for Grundy Center.
