State of Iowa Employees Achieve Record Results In 2007 Food Drive
(Des Moines) - State of Iowa employees raised a record-setting $90,784 plus nearly 22,000 pounds of actual food items for the Food Bank of Iowa during their recently concluded 2007 food drive.
“This is the kind of tremendous result I expected to see from Iowa’s public servants, because year after year they have consistently raised the bar and met their new goals and challenges,” said Governor Chet Culver.
State of Iowa employees surpassed their previous record of $67,433 raised in the 2006 drive by more than $23,000. With each dollar donated representing the equivalent of two food items, they collected 203,398 total food items to break their record of 161,551 total food items established in 2006. A successful Kickoff Lunch at the Capitol on National Hunger Awareness Day on June 5, 2007, itself raised $3,335 with 667 people purchasing tickets.
Iowa Utilities Board Chairman John Norris chaired this year’s food drive, emceeing the program at the Kickoff Lunch and working with staff at the IUB and other state agencies to achieve this year’s record-setting results.
