Governor Culver Makes Judicial Appointment
Governor appoints Colleen D. Weiland as District Court Judge for the 2nd Judicial District
(Des Moines) Today, Governor Chet Culver appointed Colleen Weiland as a District Court Judge for the 2nd Judicial District of Iowa. For the last ten years, Weiland has served as a judicial magistrate in Cerro Gordo County. The 2nd Judicial District covers Winnebago, Hancock, Worth, Cerro Gordo, Franklin, Mitchell, Floyd, Butler and Bremer counties. The vacancy was created when Iowa District Court Judge Jon Stuart Scoles resigned and became Northern Iowa Federal District Court Magistrate.
“I am proud to announce Colleen Weiland as Iowa’s new District Court judge for the 2nd District,” said Governor Culver. “Her experience as a judicial magistrate for the past 10 years has prepared her well for her new job as a District Court judge. With her judicial background and experience in private practice, I am certain she will make valuable contributions to Iowa’s judicial system in the years ahead.”
COLLEEN WEILAND: Colleen Weiland is currently a judicial magistrate in Cerro Gordo County. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in 1991 and her law degree from the University of Iowa, College of Law with distinction in 1994. While in law school she interned with the Dubuque County Attorney and the Iowa Attorney General. After graduating in 1994 she worked as a general practice attorney and hospital legal counsel for Schroeder & Anderson until in 1997 she became a judicial magistrate for Cerro Gordo County. She has also been an adjunct instructor at North Iowa Area Community College since 2004.
