Governor's Fourth Annual Homeland Security Conference Starts Monday
Theme is Teaming for Success
(DES MOINES)—The Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division will host the Governor’s Fourth Annual Homeland Security Conference July 16-18, at the Polk County Convention Complex in Des Moines. This year’s theme is Teaming for Success, which represents the many diverse occupational backgrounds, levels of government, and private sector organizations involved in coordinating and improving homeland security efforts in Iowa.
Lt. Governor and Governor’s Homeland Security Advisor Patty Judge and Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division Administrator David Miller will open the conference.
Featured speakers and topics include:
- Richard Hainje, regional administrator, FEMA Region VII on the reorganization of FEMA;
- Dr. Anthony Cahill, senior research scientist and director, Division of Disability and Health Policy, Center for Development and Disability, University of New Mexico School of Medicine will address integrating disability and other special needs into the state emergency planning process; and
- Dr. Haven Simmons, associate professor of communication arts, Salisbury University will speak on the importance of public information in a natural disaster.
