(Des Moines) Below is a statement from Governor Chet Culver on celebrating Independence Day:
STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR CULVER:
"Today, across the state and across the nation, we celebrate the 4th of July. This is a time to get together with friends and family and reflect upon what it means to be an American. Here in America, we are blessed to live in a land where our liberties are respected, and every person has a chance to reach their God-given potential. This is the greatest nation on Earth, and as Iowans, we are fortunate to live in the greatest state in the union.
"As we celebrate our nation's independence, we should all take a moment and remember the service and sacrifice of our brave men and women overseas. They have made us proud and we all wish them a safe return home."
