Governor Culver Announces Health Care Commission Appointees
Five will serve on Affordable Health Care Plans for Small Businesses and Families Commission
(DES MOINES)- Today, Governor Chet Culver announced his Commission on Affordable Health Care Plans for Small Businesses and Families appointees. The commission was created by the legislature as an interim commission to study ways to provide more Iowans with health care coverage. The commission is comprised of ten legislators, nine representatives of stakeholder organizations, and five consumers.
Governor Culver’s appointees are:
- Sarah Swisher is a nurse from Coralville and a representative of the Change to Win Coalition.
- Jan Laue of Des Moines is vice president of the Iowa Federation of Labor.
- Dr. David Carlyle with the Iowa Academy of Family Physicians is from Ames.
- Sharon Treinen of Ackley is a registered dietician and an active volunteer with American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).
- Eric Parrish is an attorney from Des Moines.
Governor Culver said, “Health care is an issue that impacts the life of every Iowan. Each of these appointees brings a unique perspective to the health care debate that will ensure that the concerns of everyday Iowans are part of the discourse.” The commission is set to hold the first of seven meetings today, Wednesday, June 20, 2007.
