Governor Culver Issues Disaster Proclamation In Wake Of Eastern Iowa Tornadoes

Proclamation issued for three counties in response to today’s severe weather

(Des Moines) Today Governor Chet Culver issued a proclamation of disaster emergency for Jackson, Louisa and Muscatine counties in eastern Iowa. “The damage assessments are just beginning in some areas. Local authorities are still responding to the aftermath of today’s tornadoes,” said Governor Culver. “We are prepared to do what it takes to assist those residents in eastern Iowa that have been affected by the tornadoes.”

Homeland Security / Emergency Management officials have activated the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC). The Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety are also on alert. As of now, the areas that appear to be hardest hit by the storm are Fruitland and Muscatine in Muscatine County, and Grandview in Louisa County. No state assistance has been requested at this time.
