Governor Culver Signs Targeted Small Business Bill
Law helps women, people of color and people with disabilities start small businesses
(Des Moines)- Today, Governor Chet Culver signed into law HF 890. This bill provides funding for Iowa’s Targeted
Small Business Program.
Governor Culver said, “This important program makes it easier for female, minority, and disabled entrepreneurs to start businesses and create new financial opportunities for themselves and others. These businesses will create new jobs for thousands of Iowans, promote diversity across our state and make our economy stronger.”
Several Iowa small business owners, legislators and members of the Targeted Small Business Task Force were on hand for the bill signing. HF 890 provides $4 million to Iowa’s existing Targeted Small Business Program. Each qualified applicant will be able to receive grants, up to $50,000, for startup expenses.
“To move our state forward, we must make Iowa a state where everyone, regardless of race, gender or ability, has the opportunity to turn their ideas into reality and reach their full potential,” said Governor Culver.
