Governor Culver Takes Action On Legislation
(Des Moines) Today, Governor Chet Culver signed the following pieces of legislation into law today:
House File 718: establishes cigarette fire safety standards, prohibits the sale of cigarettes in the state which have not been tested and certified for fire safety, creates a Cigarette Fire Safety Fund, and provides for penalties.
House File 864: requires applicants for a fire fighter appointment pay for and successfully complete a candidate physical ability test.
Senate File 472: requires the posting of close-clearance warning devices along railroad tracks and provides a penalty.
Senate File 340: provides additional protections regarding the consideration of inherited or gifted property in dissolution of marriage property division proceedings.
These bills are in addition to Senate File 403, the Supplemental Appropriations bill, which was acted upon earlier today.
