Governor To Launch "Capitol For A Day"
"Capitol For A Day" to start in Dubuque and Pottawattamie Counties on May 17th & May 30th
(Des Moines) Governor Chet Culver is proud to announce the launch of his “Capitol for a Day” tour to begin this month. Throughout the legislative session, many Iowans traveled to the state capitol in Des Moines to meet Governor Culver and Lt. Governor Patty Judge. The Governor has decided it is now time to bring the state capitol to the people of Iowa.
“As Governor, it has been a thrill to meet Iowans from every corner of the state as they came to the beautiful state capitol during this past legislative session,” said Governor Culver. “After an intense and productive legislative session, I believe it is now time to bring the state capitol to the people of Iowa.”
The premise behind “Capitol for a Day” is for the Governor to travel to counties across the state to hold office hours and listen to Iowans’ thoughts, ideas and concerns. Accompanying the Governor will be Directors from various state departments to highlight specific issues.
“The best briefings I receive are firsthand from the people of Iowa,” said Governor Culver. “If an Iowan has an innovative idea on how to keep young people in our state, I want to hear it. If an Iowan has some thoughts about improving education, I want to hear it. If an Iowan just wants to listen and say ‘hello’ they will certainly have that opportunity as we travel the state.
“One of the best aspects of my job is meeting Iowans from all walks of life. Now that the legislative session is over, I am excited to travel the state and get input on new initiatives for next year.”
“Capitol for a Day” will begin with Governor Culver traveling to Dubuque on Thursday, May 17 and then to Council Bluffs on Wednesday, May 30. Specific times and locations will soon follow.
