Governor Culver Appoints John Baldwin As Director Of Department Of Corrections
(Des Moines) Today, Governor Chet Culver announced that he has appointed John Baldwin as Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections. Baldwin has served as acting director since January 19, 2007.
Governor Culver said, “I am very pleased that John Baldwin has agreed to serve in this vitally important position. John brings 30 years of corrections experience. He is well respected, highly regarded and a consensus builder. I appreciate his willingness to serve as the Director of the Department of Corrections.”
Baldwin said, “I am thrilled to be entrusted with such a great department. I look forward to working with Governor Culver and lawmakers to implement initiatives that are critical to moving the corrections field forward here in Iowa.”
Baldwin, a Fort Dodge native, has been with the Iowa Department of Corrections since 1977 and has served as the Deputy Director of Administration since 1983. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Iowa and an M.A. in Political Science and Public Administration from Iowa State University. John Baldwin is married with two grown children. He currently resides in West Des Moines.
