Governor Culver: "Great Day For Iowa's Regent Institutions"
(Des Moines) Below is a statement from Governor Chet Culver on the Senate confirmation of all four of his Regent nominees to the Board of Regents:
STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR CULVER ON REGENT CONFIRMATIONS:
“Today is a great day for Iowa’s Regent institutions and higher education. The Senate has confirmed all four of the extremely qualified and capable individuals I nominated to serve on this important Board. In doing so, I am thrilled they can now move forward with the important mission of expanding access to higher education and searching for a new president for the University of Iowa. I thank the Senate for their bipartisan support.
“As I said in my inaugural speech, ‘It doesn't matter whether you are a Republican, Democrat or Independent. Whether you live in rural Iowa or urban Iowa. Whether you are a native Iowan or a new arrival. Young or old. What does matter is that we lock arms for the common good and tap our gold mine of potential.’
“Today, I stand by those words as strongly as I did on that day in January. I believe the four Iowans I have nominated represent the very best or our state. They are talented, qualified individuals who are committed not to party or politics, but to achieving the best leadership and governance possible for our Regent’s institutions.
“I have always believed that Western Iowa should be represented on the Board of Regents. In the spirit of achieving ‘One Iowa,’ I look forward to working with Republicans and Democrats alike to find a qualified nominee from Western Iowa as my next appointment to the Board of Regents.
“I congratulate Bonnie Campbell, Jack Evans, Craig Lang and David Miles on their confirmation and look forward to working with them to strengthen our Iowa Regent institutions.
“Finally, and most importantly, I believe the real beneficiaries of this addition to the Board of Regents are the young people in Iowa who are relying on these Regent institutions every day. I am confident that Bonnie, Jack, Craig and David will make them proud.”
