Statement From Governor Culver On REC Projections
(Des Moines) Below is a statement from Governor Chet Culver on the new revenue projections given by the Revenue Estimating Conference:
STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR CHET CULVER ON REC NUMBERS:
“The budget I presented to the legislature in January works within the new revenue estimates. I believe it is prudent that we continue to be fiscally conservative. As my Fiscal Year 2008 budget recommended, we need to fully fund our State Reserve Funds, not under-fund the targets for the Iowa Medicaid Program, and avoid budgeting gimmicks to balance the budget.
“Our economy needs to continue to grow, and I strongly believe the Iowa Power Fund is one of the best tools to help us achieve this growth. Iowa already has one of the five fastest growing bioeconomies in the nation, but I think we can do better. The Power Fund will help us research and develop new forms of renewable energy, which will inevitably lead to job creation and economic growth. This is why I am working with the legislature to get the Power Fund bill to my desk as soon as possible so Iowa can continue being a leader in this new energy economy.”
