Governor Culver Names Interim Director For Commission On Status Of Women

Lori SchraderBachar named interim director, outgoing director Charlotte Nelson retires

(Des Moines) – Today, Governor Chet Culver announced that Lori SchraderBachar has been named interim director of the Commission on the Status of Women. The Commission is under the Department of Human Rights. She will take over the Commission from Charlotte Nelson, who is retiring.

Governor Culver said, “Lori SchraderBachar has the knowledge and experience to lead the Commission on the Status of Women. She has a proven record as an advocate for women and issues that affect women, and I am confident that she will provide steady leadership over the Commission.”

Governor Culver also praised Charlotte Nelson for her years of service to the Commission. “I want to thank Charlotte for her tireless commitment to the advancement of women here in Iowa. I wish her good health and happiness in her retirement,” said Governor Culver.

SchraderBachar has served as the Commission’s Coordinator of Publications and Special Events since 1999 and actively participates on numerous boards and committees related to the activities of the Commission. She is a board of the National Association for Commissions for Women and chair of the group’s public policy committee. SchraderBachar also co-chairs Friends of Iowa Civil Rights, Incorporated.

“I am honored to have been named interim director for the Commission on the Status of Women,” said SchraderBachar. “I have been with the commission for eight years and look forward to advocating for the rights of Iowa women as interim director.”

SchraderBachar begins her role as interim director on Friday, April 6, 2007.
