DOT: Iowans Should Closely Monitor for Road Closures
Officials with the Iowa Departments of Transportation and Public Safety are urging Iowans to closely monitor weather and road conditions Thursday morning as a severe winter storm hits Iowa.
The National Weather Service has issued blizzard warnings for much of Iowa tomorrow. This is a potentially life-threatening storm that may make travel very difficult or dangerous. The National Weather Service warns that a combination of heavy rain, freezing rain, sleet, and heavy snow with blowing and drifting during the day on Thursday may cause travel difficulties. This could lead to whiteout conditions and make travel dangerous or impossible.
Tomorrow, Iowans may expect closures of a number of roads, including interstate highways. Citizens should closely monitor the weather and road conditions early Thursday morning by tuning into radio and television news, and by calling 511, the road condition hotline.
Additionally, citizens should make sure they have adequate supplies for several days in case power or travel is disrupted. This includes food supplies and stored water.
