Governor Culver Names John Baldwin as Acting Director of Department of Corrections
Governor accepts Maynard’s resignation; Maynard accepts new job as Maryland Secretary of Public Safety and Correctional Services
(Des Moines) Today, Governor Chet Culver accepts Gary Maynard’s resignation as Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections. Maynard has accepted a new position as the Maryland Secretary of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
Governor Culver has announced that current Department of Corrections Deputy Director of Administration John Baldwin will serve as the acting Director of the IA Department of Corrections.
Baldwin has been with the Iowa Department of Corrections since 1977 and has served as the Deputy Director of Administration since 1983. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Iowa and an M.A. in Public Administration from Iowa State University.
“I have accepted Gary’s resignation and I thank him for his service to the state and wish him well in the future,” said Governor Culver. “John Baldwin has more than 20 years of experience at the Department of Corrections and I am confident that he will serve us well as acting Director of this important department.”
