Governor-elect Culver and Lt. Governor-elect Judge Announce Dr. Gregory Peterson as Director of the Department of Public Health
(Des Moines) Today, Governor-elect Chet Culver and Lt. Governor-elect Patty Judge announced the appointment of Dr. Gregory Peterson as the new Director of the Department of Public Health.
“I am thrilled that Dr. Peterson has agreed to be a part of our administration and bring his expertise to this important position,” said Governor-elect Culver. “Keeping Iowans safe and healthy is an enormous responsibility that I take very seriously. With his background as a physician and his creative ideas for Iowa’s future, Dr. Peterson’s appointment is an important step toward improving public health in our state.”
Dr. Gregory Peterson, Director of the Department of Public Health: Dr. Greg Peterson graduated from the Des Moines University Medical School in 1979 and has practiced in Des Moines since 1983. Dr. Peterson currently works as the Chief Medical Officer, Diagnostic & Critical Care Medicine at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. He has been a professor of Medicine at his alma mater since 1983 and was honored with the Quality HealthCare Award from Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in 2001. Dr. Peterson has served on numerous committees, including the State Hazard Mitigation Team at Iowa Homeland Security and as the Chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee for the Department of Human Resources.
