Governor-elect Culver and Lt. Governor-elect Judge Announce Appointments

(Des Moines) Today, Governor-elect Chet Culver and Lt. Governor-elect Patty Judge announced the second-round of appointments to their administration. Included in the appointments are two directors of state agencies, Daniel Steen as Commandant of the Iowa Veterans Home and Brad Anderson as Communications Director.

“Each of these appointees has shown leadership and a willingness to work hard to serve the people of Iowa,” said Governor-elect Culver. “I am confident that their wide breadth of experience will be a tremendous asset to our administration and it is a privilege to have them as part of our team.”

Today’s announcements include:

Mollie Anderson, Director of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services: Mollie Anderson has been serving as Director of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services since December 2002. As Director, Anderson engineered the redesign of the State of Iowa’s human resources, IT, general services, and accounting services agencies into a single business unit, developing an entrepreneurial management business model to improve customer service, save money, streamline services and enhance resource flexibility. A graduate of Midland Lutheran College in Nebraska, Anderson previously served as Director of the Iowa Department of Personnel from 1999-2002.

Nancy Richardson, Director of the Iowa Department of Transportation: Nancy Richardson has served as the Director of the Iowa Department of Transportation since October 2005. Richardson has served the Iowa Department of Transportation since 1982, including four years as the Administration Division Director. Prior to her appointment as agency Director, Richardson served 12 years as the agency’s Operations and Finance Division Director. A graduate of the University of Iowa, Richardson is a member of several boards and commissions including the Technology Governance Board, the Interstate Cooperation Commission and the American Association of Highway and Transportation Officials.

Daniel Steen, Commandant of the Iowa Veterans Home: Daniel Steen was appointed Commandant of the Iowa Veterans Home (IVH) in November 2004. Steen manages IVH departments and programs including nursing, rehabilitative care, social services, pharmacy and physical and occupational therapy. Steen previously served as the Executive Director of the residential care facility, Calvin Community. He has served on the Strategic Planning and Public Policy Committees of the Iowa Association of Homes and Services for the Aging and on the Governor’s Task Force on Nursing Shortages.

Brad Anderson, Communications Director: Brad Anderson served as Governor-elect Chet Culver’s Communications Director during the 2006 campaign and is currently serving as his Communications Director for the transition. A graduate of North Carolina State University, Anderson served as Sen. Tom Harkin’s Research Director during his 2002 re-election campaign and then served as a policy and political advisor to Sen. John Edwards in 2003 and 2004 during the Iowa caucuses. Following the caucuses, Anderson was the Iowa Communications Director for America Coming Together and went on to work for the Kerry/Edwards campaign after Edwards was picked as the Vice Presidential nominee.
