The tornados, storms, and floods of 2008 were some of the worst natural disasters in our nation’s history. But as soon as the waters receded, Governor Culver and Lt. Governor Judge got to work to help people address their unmet needs, and begin the long process of rebuilding the state. Under the leadership of Lt. Governor Judge and Lt. General Ron Dardis, the Rebuild Iowa Office is coordinating billions of dollars of state, federal and private recovery money and assets for people in need. Governor Culver and Lt. Governor Judge know this process will take years, and they will never waver in their commitment to rebuild Iowa. 2008 was a year Iowans will never forget. But together, we are rebuilding a safer, stronger, and better Iowa.
- As the storms continued to hit our state, Governor Culver visited more than 25 of the hardest-hit communities to help ensure state resources were being utilized and Iowans were safe.
- While Iowans were still recovering from the floods, Governor Culver signed his Executive Order 7, which created the Rebuild Iowa Office and the Rebuild Iowa Advisory Commission, leading Iowa down the road to recovery.
- Thanks to the Governor’s efforts, more than $3.3 billion has been secured for rebuilding efforts across the state from both state and federal sources.
