National Guard and Service Members

Countless service members of the Active Duty military, Guard, and Reserve have served with dignity and honor throughout Iowa’s history. Today, Iowans in uniform have shown heroism and dedication on missions statewide and nationwide, most recently during the floods of 2008. Four thousand members of the Guard responded during the flood-fight, the largest deployment since the Civil War, and more than 13,000 have been deployed worldwide. As Commander-in-Chief of the Iowa National Guard, Governor Culver has not only worked to improve the quality of life for our service members, but also for Iowans who have worn the uniform. Governor Culver and Lt. Governor Judge will continue to honor all Iowa’s veterans – not just through words, but also through actions.Governor Culver shakes hands with a National Guard member during the floods of 2008
